Systems ecologist and rural development specialist
He is a systems ecologist and rural development specialist, employed by the CSIR South Africa since 1989. He obtained his MSc from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1990 and is currently registered for a PhD through the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Mr von Maltitz has specialised in large integrated multi-disciplinary projects involving the interface between humans and natural resource management. He has had a long term interest in biomass use, and developed some of the early models on fuelwood supply and demand in South Africa. Over the past few years he has extended this interest into sustainability concerns related to the production of biofuels. He has published approximately 20 peer reviewed scientific articles, numerous conference proceedings as well as over 100 technical project reports.
