Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger

Manager of the Environment and Sustainable Development Law at the International Development Law Organization

Professor Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger, DPhil (Oxon), MEM (Yale), BCL & LL.B (McGill), BA Hons, is Manager of the Environment and Sustainable Development Law at the International Development Law Organization in Rome. She has 15 years of experience facilitating the implementation of international treaties on sustainable economic development, and has published 14 books on trade, investment, climate change and other sustainable development law issues, in three languages. For IDLO, she leads programs such as Legal Preparedness for Climate Finance, which provides legal technical assistance for climate compatible development and access to carbon markets and climate finance. She also co-edits a Legal Working Paper Series on Sustainable Development Law on Climate Change, and coordinates a Compendium series on legal best practices in this field. Prof Cordonier Segger also serves, on a pro bono academic basis, as Director of the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), as Affiliated Fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law (LCIL) at Cambridge University; and as Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile. Previously, she was Senior Director for Sustainable Prosperity, a green economy policy research initiative, A/Director of International Affairs for Natural Resources Canada, and Associate with International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).
