Lead on Sustainable Energy Policy at the UK regulator (Ofgem)

 

An interdisciplinary career with an
emphasis upon international policy-relevant research, leading projects with demonstrated
impact. Ten years at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (five as
Programme Head) before being appointed as Professor of Climate Change and
Energy Policy at Imperial College. Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Climate
Policy Journal. Lead Author for several reports of the IPCC addressing the
economic, technological and social aspects of limiting greenhouse gas emissions,
including the 2nd, 3rd and 4th IPCC
Assessments. Member of the Advisory Council, International Association for
Energy Economics, and Council Member, British Institute of Energy Economics. Appointed
to the UK Climate Change Committee, whose recommendations for future Carbon
Budgets have all been accepted by the government and passed into legislation
under the Climate Change Act.  Role as
Chief Economist at the Carbon Trust gave direct engagement with transforming UK
business, and now appointed as lead on Sustainable Energy Policy at the UK
regulator (Ofgem). Finalising new book, ‘Planetary Economics: the three domains
of sustainable development’.
