This side event provided an opportunity for participants to engage in an open discussion on the role of trade in the diffusion of climate-friendly goods and technologies.

Details

In particular, the event highlighted key results of a study on trade flows and marketdrivers
for climate-friendly technologies in the renewable energy supply and buildings sector. A study on the harmonization of energy efficiency regulations was also presented.

What constitutes an enabling environment for the uptake of technologies and associated goods in the renewable energy and buildings sectors? What is the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in contributing to such an enabling environment? How could international development agencies and the private sector help scale up trade and investment in these technologies, particularly in developing countries? And what is the best way to harmonize energy efficiency standards from a trade and climate change perspective?

This side event allowed participants to engage in an open discussion on the role of trade in the diffusion of climate-friendly goods and technologies. The side event featured presentations on new research in the area. Key results of a study on trade flows and market-drivers for climate-friendly technologies in the renewable energy supply and buildings sector was highlighted. There was also be a presentation on a study on the harmonization of energy efficiency regulations.
